We came here and luckily got seated right away. Apparently they get pretty packed. I guess we came just in time!We ordered the ja jang myun [black bean noodles], garlic chicken wings, salt and pepper fish, and fried tofu. The ja jang myun was really good. Definitely deserves all the rave reviews. The tofu was decent. I like how it was crispy on the outside and soft tofu on the inside. It uses a dipping sauce and therefore there was no actual taste to the tofu. I'd prefer if there was some salt or something. The fish was definitely not salty enough. There was also a lot of dough on it. Probably the least favorite dish of the night. The chicken wings were awesome. Will definitely come back to get more ja jang myun and try their other spicy soup noodle. 4 STARS!

I came here for a friend's birthday dinner, and we had a pretty good time. Parking here is ridiculous. There is a strip mall to the side of the building of the restaurant, and hopefully, you can find parking there. Otherwise, you are banished to street parking! When you get here, you stand around for a little while and then quickly get ushered to a table. However, the food was pretty tasty. We had the black bean noodles, which were tasty and a great consistency but bland. I had to really pour on the soy sauce. We also had the chicken wings, chow fun, sauteed long beans, some other chicken dish that featured boneless chicken strips in a batter and then sauced with a salty sweet savory sauce. All in all, the food was bland for me. I liked the flavors, but everything desperately needed to be seasoned more.Service was typical of this kind of Asian restaurant. We saw our server once to get our orders, and different people came by to drop off our food. If you want something, you have to flag down a waiter yourself.Eh, pretty good, but nothing to write home about.

This review is specifically only concerning jjang-bong and jang jang myun.I love these two and finding good restaurants are hard but I think I found the place!Jjang-bong: Seafood is very good, not overly cooked. Most of the seafood in jjang-bong are too cooked and the texture always tend to be rubbery. Also, for those who love spicy food it's not very spicy (fyi, I have high spice tolerance) but the broth still taste good. The noodles are alright. It tends to lose its' chewiness because of the hot broth it's in. Overall, the jjang-bong at "Tisng Tao" (on Campbell) is better.Jang-jang myun: I love the noodles. It's somewhat al dente which is the way I like it. The sauce is quite watery and not thick enough but has good amount of flavor. Often times, many restaurants tends to always be bland but it's not the case here. However, I feel like there's less add-ins like cabbage, onions, and meat in the sauce. I think if I ever want jang-jang myun I probably would come here.Cabbage Kimchi: This place serves not napa but cabbage. Usually I hate cabbage kimchi because many places serve it weird with non-traditional kimchi sauce and tends to be more vinagery. However, I actually really like the kimchi and ate two plates by myself of just kimchi.Service: Typical Asian service. They're quick and if you ask for something they'll get it for you but don't expect overly friendly waitresses serving you.Price: 2 jang jang myun and 1 jjang-bong= around $28?Parking: Sucks

Service: 3.5/5When you first arrive, you'll find yourself being welcomed and hurried to a table. Menus handed out quickly and set to go. The downside is that it seems like they sort of rush you and if you don't have what you want in mind, they may see to push you a little bit. They're quick, but maybe a little too quick.Black Bean Noodle (jjajangmyun) was a 4/5 this time. The onion really overpowered the sauce and slightly bitter. But other than that, the jjajangmyun was really good. It wasn't too salty (which is a big plus, because it can be hard to stay away from a lot of salt when making it). They thickness and the texture of the actual sauce was consistent. In the sauce, there is onions, other vegetables (such as carrots, cucumber, etc), and meat (beef).Sweet and Sour was a 4/5.The actual cruchiness and tenderness of the chicken was perfect. However, the sauce was a little too sweet for normal. However, there was a looooot of chicken and a decent amount of vegetables and onions on the side.Mushu Chicken 5/5I eat this every time I come. It is a bit oily, but if you're okay with that, then this is perfect for you. It's a whole hodgepodge of eggs, chicken, vegetables, and greens. You can wrap it sort of like a burrito in a tortilla-thing and it is absolutely mouth watering. It might be a little salty, but is is one of the attractions of the dinner.

I accidentally ate the shrimp without peeling it but almost didn't even notice because it was so delicious. I just thought, "oooh, nice crunch texture.' The cucumber sea food salad was really refreshing, nicely balancing out the heavier dishes. Love this place. It's one of the places that I recommend to people whenever they ask for a good recommendation... and one of the places I will take friends who don't get to eat much good Chinese food.My two must-haves: "pulled noodles" & fried chicken wings. If you love the chewiness of hand or machine-pulled noodles, this is a definitely must-go spot. If however, you don't, then order something else. :P The black bean noodles (ja jang mien) are quite delicious. As with most places, they keep the plain cooked white noodles in a bowl separate from the black bean sauce so you can mix to your taste. We always end up with extra sauce - so we either order an extra order of plain noodles or take the sauce home and make them with our own noodles! They have "gong pang gi" - I think that translates to dry fried chicken. Either, way, they are delicious (large) chicken wings that have a yummy sauce on top. Asian and Caucasian friends alike have loved it, too. There are also lots of other dishes available that have all proved quite delicious to my tummy. I don't think there has been a single thing I haven't tried and liked at this restaurant. Well... except the spicy stuff, and that is only because I'm a spicy-wimp.FYI - The servers speak English, Mandarin, or Korean.

My family has been coming here forever. This place and Tsing Tao in campbell are the only two places my family consistently go to for Korean-style Chinese food. We get takeout more often than eating at the restaurant. We always get the jjajangmyun/black bean sauce noodles (though I like the jjajangmyun at Tsing Tao better), the tangsuyuk (I think this in English would be sweet & sour beef - its like fried beef in a sweet sauce with pineapples) and the Mongolian beef. Sometimes we change it up and also get the kkan-pung-gi/sweet fried chicken which is also really yummy and the mushu pork (ask for extra pancakes).

Background: your search for Jajangmyeon can end because of Tong Soon Garden.Details: Jajangmyeon (aka Black Bean noodle) - best $8.50 you'll ever spend. If you're not too familiar with Blackbean noodles, they are absolutely my favorite noodles ever. Black Bean Sauce (but not like grainy beany, just rich smooth taste) + pork belly, seafood, shrimp, onion in a big large bowl of thick korean noodles. I'd recommend pairing it with sweet and sour pork - korean style = DELICIOUS!!!At the end of dinner you get BOTH orange slices AND fortune Cookies. HOORAY!The restaurant is owned by people who speak BOTH chinese and Korean. If you speak neither - just point at the menu it'll be okay. The restaurant is clean-ish, but looks like it has been remodeled since the 80s. Parking in the back or street.Verdict: Overall, loved the food. Will come back even though I live in SF!

Went here a couple of days ago with a friend for dinner after searching for a place to have black bean noodles(Jjajangmyeon) in the area. I was craving some since I haven't had it in a couple years. I use to travel from Vallejo to Oakland just to get some!Since the plates were ala carte, my friend and I decided to order a couple of plates to share. We ended up getting the house fried rice, black bean noodles, and the chicken wings. It was funny because I guess the lady knew we have never been there and already knew that we wanted to get the chicken wings! The food was excellent as well as the customer service...it's the little things that count. Came for lunch with a group of about 15, and shared via the lazy-Susan tables a number of things. As a newly pescatarian-veggie I stay away from red meat & poultry now, but their seafood was a pleasant surprise. The fried octopus and walnut prawns were good. I am glad I don't do deep-fried anything very often, though. The Vegetable Delight however was filled with rather overdone tofu and a faintly weird sauce. The crunchy things that came along with everything were tasty. and I found the kim chee not too salty (as some here mentioned), but like Goldilocks "just right". It all came with big bowls of sticky rice as of the sort I have rarely seen since my childhood years in Honolulu. Not prohibitively expensive either, everyone's stake in the meal came to about $10 per table (which included those elements I did not indulge in.) The hot-sour soup as a first course was spicy enough to match the kim chee (and take the edge off.)

Drove by this place with my coworkers a few times and we finally went for lunch. You get a lot of food for lunch. If we ordered 3 lunch specials, we would have been good for the 4 of us. The lunch value is very good and the taste isn't too bad. We made the mistake or ordering multiple chicken dishes. All of the chicken dishes started to taste the same. The part I didn't like about this place is the service. The waitress seemed to jack the plates wherever she could. She was very rude and I felt rushed by her. She tried to take away a full plate of food when we were eating. The service made it an unpleasant experience. Overall, the food is okay, the value for was good and the service was lousy. I did glance at the dinner menu and some dishes looked overly expensive and I didn't see any good deals like the lunch menu.

Good, middle of the road place. There is a lot of "value" in the lunch menu where I went with my colleagues. I had the Tong Soon Beef. The food was served very quickly. The lunch special comes with a hot and sour soup and a salad. The hot and sour soup had tomatoes and mushrooms in it, a welcome surprise and had a nice spicy kick. The salad also has a mustard kick. The Tong Soon beef was a bit over done. But in general the food was fine for a lunch. The portions are big so go with an empty stomach or a take out box will be necessary. The fried rice also comes with the lunch special and it was bland, but very sufficient. All in all, a good value restaurant. Great for those days when you just want to get some food in your stomach. The chopsticks were a surprise because they sike you to thinking it's your typical disposable wooden chopsticks but VOILA!!!! When you have a craving for fried chicken, Tong Soon Garden is the place to go! I saw the reviews on Yelp and wanted to give them a try. We ended up picking up a couple of dishes to go:-Spicy Garlic Fried Chicken ($8.99, http://www.yelp.com/biz_…): Yum! This probably would've tasted even better fresh at the restaurant, but it was still delicious at home. Some of the skin got a little soggy on the way back, but most of the skin was still crispy and delicious. The sauce was the dry kind, but the wings had a lot of flavor, and you got a good amount for the price. Recommended!-JaJang Mien (Black Bean Noodles, http://www.yelp.com/biz_…): Yum! The sauce had shrimp and bay scallops in it, and was really tasty without being too salty. Definitely one of the best JaJang miens in the area that I've had. Recommended!-Side of Kim Chee & Onion (http://www.yelp.com/biz_…): Yuck. The kim chee was more of a dry pickled cabbage, and really tart. I didn't like the taste and ended up tossing it. The pieces of onion were standard, and went well with the chicken. However, I would have preferred pickled daikon pieces instead. The chicken wings at Tong Soon are different from what you'll get at 99 Chicken or Bon Chon, but they were delicious in their way. And the bonus is that they have an extended menu here, and have items that you can't get at the other restuarants. Also, their homemade chili sauce is really flavorful! Overall, I definitely recommend you check out Tong Soon Garden for their JaJang Mien and Spicy Garlic Fried Chicken!

After we ordered, we were shocked at how fast the food arrived and the quality it was in -- it wasn't half-assed, but actually really great!Plenty of street parking and parking in the back. The servers were super nice about letting us stay after we had finished eating. Every aspect of my visit left me happy and I left full of good food, with leftovers in hand.First stop? The bathroom. The restroom was clean and smelled really good. There was some sort of a blue, plug in air freshener next to the sink and I actually considered pulling it to try and figure out what it was so I could get it for home! There was complimentary tea and kimchi whiting at the table when I got back from the bathroom. I'm not generally a big fan of kimchi, but this was something else. Just lightly pickled, so that it was still crunchy and made with regular green cabbage instead of napa. It was faintly reminiscent of pickled cucumbers but with a delicious spicy tossed coating. YUM!Now, I've been searching for the perfect egg roll since I moved here last year (see Chef King review). I've tried egg rolls at literally dozens of restaurants in the south bay and this was the closest I've come to egg roll nirvana. Not overly spiced, fresh sliced cabbage and veggies in a crisp wonton skin. Not sauced, oily or gloppy, just fresh and hot. I almost cried. We split orders of mongolian beef and chicken with snowpeas. Be aware, the portions are HUGE! The beef came almost still sizzling, fragrant and delicious. Green and white onions, cooked to the perfect soft crunch. Hot peppers, but not so many that they overpowered the thin slices of delicious beef. All on a bed of crispy noodles. The noodles were a little dry at first but softened up under the food (they were even more delicious the 2nd day). The chicken had a slightly gingery white sauce, again not too thick or heavy. It came mixed with snowpeas, water chestnuts and mushrooms. I'm not a big mushroom fan, next time, I'd probably order it without them, but they were big enough to eat around. The rice was fluffy, the food was great and the portions were huge. Not only do they have sweet chopsticks with the little ridges at the end that help to grip your food, the waitress told me where I could buy them for myself, even giving me directions! Fresh sliced oranges completed the meal.Parking was pretty tight, but that's to be expected at a lot of restaurants. I only wish it was closer to my house.

Back when I was a little girl, my mom would take me and my sisters to a Korean-Chinese restaurant in San Jose. Once in a while we'd get jjajangmyun or tahngsooyuk, but what I always craved was the chicken fried rice. Huge chunks of chicken, wonderful flavor in the rice... it's the only thing I wanted and gobbled it up with the Chinese-style cabbage kimchi.Soon afterwards, I moved to Texas. But the taste of that fried rice haunted me, and I tried in vain to all of the hole-in-the wall, dirty Chinese restaurants who could replicate the fried rice perfection I had as a child. And I was never able to find it.Even when I moved back to the East Bay, I tried every Chinese restaurant within a 3 mile radius to see how their chicken fried rice would stack up (that, and I just love Chinese food). None of them ever did.Imagine my delight when my fiance-at-the-time's mom took him and me to a Korean-Chinese restaurant. They told me this location used to actually be another larger Korean-Chinese restaurant elsewhere, but moved to this smaller location. I had a glimmer of hope, and took a risk by ordering the chicken fried rice. And when I put that first bite into my mouth, I knew I was home.I may give this place 5 stars because of the sentimentality of the chicken fried rice (which, btw, my cousin from Atlanta tried it and said it was the BEST chicken fried rice she's ever had. And she's a chef, #justsayin). But this place does ohhhhh so much more than chicken fried rice. I do agree with other reviews that their jjajangmyun and jjambbong is mediocre (they have some good nights, and some really bad ones). Then don't order them. I will tell you what to order.1. Chicken fried rice. HELLO! What has this whole review been about? The hubs and I were trying to figure out how they make it the way they do, and we concluded that they use a LOT of butter and MSG.2. Tahngsooyuk. It's pretty good. Not the best ever, but will satisfy your TSY craving3. I don't remember what it's called, but it's like a jelly moo (radish), cold tossed salad with hot mustard dressing. It comes in a HUGE platter, so only order with a large group4. Ggang poong oh jing oh (deep fried squid). It's #16 (I think) in the all-Korean menu on the back. Strips of squid deep fried in batter, tossed in sweet and salty sauce with peppers and vegetables. This is legit, I'm telling you5. There is a fish dish that I've never gotten, but looks amazing. It's a whole fish laid out in a huge platter, covered in an ocean of brown sauce. I'm sure if you describe it to the waitresses, they'll know what you're talking about. I've only heard great things about it.Honorable mentions1. Sweet and spicy chicken wings (I don't know the official name)2. Mapo tofu3. Eat jjajangmyun and jjambbong at your own risk. I've had meh experiences for both4. Matang. This is a sweet potato / potato dish that's served as a dessert. There are very few places that I've seen that actually sell this (the only other places I've seen it was one place in Houston that was nasty, and China. It could be that I just missed the other restaurants, but whatever). It's cubed, crisped (sweet) potatoes drizzled in hot honey. You take a fork and pick one up, dip it in ice-cold water so the honey solidifies, and then eat! The honey gets crunchy and the potatoes are still hot and soft. Mmm, what a treat. After a while, it does get pretty sweet, so order with friends and share the wealth! This is and will always be my go-to place for dirty Korean-Chinese food. I mean, you go there any given night and it's filled with Koreans or Chinese (or both). I think that's saying something. Plus, the waitresses have been working there for like 30 years, and are like second moms to you. And the fried rice of yesteryear! How much more convincing do you need?

I love jajangmyun. I mean I really, really love jajangmyun. It's comfort food to me and I will drive 25 min out of my way to get a bowl.I got the gan jajangmyun. Gan jajangmyun compare to regular doesn't have starch, which means the sauce will be thick like gravy, unlike the regular jajang sauce which sits in a big pot heating away, this one is usually freshly stir fried in the wok to order. This had to had been the worst gan jajangmyun ever!!!! First, it came with too much noodles and the noodles were over cooked. Then the jajangmyun sauce had seafood in it....jajang with seafood is samseon...I know I'm picking here but when you crave something specific and get 2 pieces of shrimp and little scallops in it, you tend to not be so happy.Any type of jajang regardless of additional toppings or the way they cook it should come with a small to medium amount of hand made noddles with some julienne cucumber on top with the fragrant jajang sauce on the side. Then you sprinkle some korean red pepper flakes on top and chow down.Last thing....the only banchan was bland, semi white old looking kimchee. The usual condiments should be red looking kimchee, yellow pickled radish, some raw onions that you put vinegar over, and a side of black bean sauce.

They did come over a lot to chat with us - probably because they were awed by the fact that me and my sister are twins and we also have twin brothers. (Guess that fact awes a lot of people.)

Was in the mood for jajangmien so decided to try a new restaurant. We went for a late lunch at 1:30pm and the restaurant was packed but we were seated right away. I was very impressed by the bilingual staff. They were friendly too!We got jajangmien (black bean sauce noodle), chaomamien (spicy seafood noodle), and liangbanbi (cold & hot combination platter). My all time fave jajangmien restaurant is tsing tao in campbell but I would have to say the jajangmien here is pretty good as well. The sauce was tasty, less sweet, and it was less oily too. Tong Soon Garden's jajangmien is second best. Not many restaurants make it to the list =P The chaomamien is better at tsing-tao though...more flavor in the soup. We really like the liangbanbi. The mustard was spicy but oh-so-good! We didn't know this dish was 20 bucks though! haha =)All in all, I am a fan of Tong Soon Garden. Will have to bring my family here.

4.0 StarsTong Soon Garden Restaurant is located in the midst of all the Koreanrestaurants along El Camino Real. It's not your typical Chinese restaurant because you'll notice there's even some Korean dishes on the menu, but you'll need to know how to read the Korean characters. You're also served spicy pickled cabbage (like Korean Kimchee) as a side dish. The Kimchee at Tong Soon Garden was more on the fermented, vinegary side, but it still had a great spice.I've read great reviews for the Black Bean Sauce Noodles (Za Jiang Mien) so I knew I had try it. Another restaurant that instantly comes to mind is San Tung in San Francisco. I'm glad to find a local alternative so I don't have to drive all the way to the City to get my Black Bean Sauce Noodle and spicy pickled cabbage fix. You'll find the Za Jiang Mien as #12 located under the "Noodle Soup" section of the menu. This noodle dish was really solid. The sauce is what really brings the dish together and its salty, but a little sweet flavor complemented the tender noodles really well. You'll also find scallops, shrimp, diced onions, and thinly sliced beef in your bowl as well.As I was nearing the bottom of my bowl, I knew my magical noodle journey was coming to an end. I know that Black Bean Sauce will be tempting me to come back again.I can't wait to visit Tong Soon Garden again to try their other Chinese and Korean dishes as well.== A MUST TRY! ==

I've been craving for the brown sauce noodles (Cha-jang myun) for quite sometime. When meeting long time school friends I haven't met with in 15 years, I didn't know I would be in for a big surprise. My friend told me the restaurant is both Korean/Chinese. I arrived a little early which meant I had to park my car in the back street lot and was feeling a bit iffy about having to park in such a isolated area.I walked in with my friend greeting me, I joined another friend at the table and ordered 3 individual dishes. One, "Cha-jang myun", the brown sauce noodles which I would HIGHLY recommend, "Tang su yuk", sweet sour and crispy beef and "Jjampong", hot seafood soup were the dish we ordered with Soju on the side.Conversing over topics of school days in the past, I couldn't fully pay attention to the flavor of the food but I had such a craving for the "Cha-jang myun" I just gulped it up. It was delicious!!! The sweet, sour and crispy beef was a good complement with the noodles and soju. The waiter was prompt in his service and kept watching to see if he needed to clear the table, I thought both the Korean and the Chinese servers very helpful and genuine. The restaurant was not at all fancy in its decor but the food was tasteful and authentic, I definitely recommend this place.

Came here two weeks in a row and if you know me, you know this is something VERY RARE!The service, on top of the delicious food always makes for a pleasurable experience! Sure, it's a little hole in the wall and parking is a tad difficult, but I wouldn't think twice to suggest it to a hungry mate. If you're searching for some simple Korean/Chinese food, the extensive menu will be sure to please. Some suggestions I have are: Korean Style Sweet and Sour Pork (not of the menu), Ja Jang Myun, Fried Tofu, Champon (Noodle soup)and Eggplant with Garlic sauce.Whether it be a quick lunch or a family dinner, make an excuse to come and visit!
